Scientifically proven benefits of meditation

Science has recently confirmed what this monkey already knows,
meditating is good for health, mind, body and soul.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have confimed what Buddhist monks (and even monkeys) have known intuitively: meditation is good for you.

Meditation is relaxing. But it takes time.

I've been doing it for years and there are times when my mind still wanders.

But the cumulative benefits of increased relaxation and a calm mind are worth every effort.

But here's a tip for all meditators: sit up straight. Not school-stiff straight but more relaxed-dude straight.

Seems scientists have determined that a lot of the brain's energy comes from nerves in the spinal cord and the better your posture, the more efficiently these nerves can fire.

Just like every good instructor in every fitness class from yoga to cardio to karate, tells you, keep your shoulders back and down, lengthen your neck and spinal cord and you will help fire off more electrical charges into your brain.

Do not sit up rigidly, sit loose and comfortably and feel the natural curve of your spine.

Don't just do something, sit there.

Here's a great meditation for beginners and advanced alike they use in zen monasteries: Sit and count your breath. One in, two out, three in, four out, until 10. Repeat.
