Tight budgets during the summer can be a challenge in finding activities for children if the cost of summer camps experiences are prohibitive. Libraries are becoming creative in providing free activities, and the Selby Library in Sarasota offers many activities during the summer that are both educational and entertaining.
Junior Science Lab at Selby Library for ages 4-9 will be offered June 19th and 26th from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and June 30th from 2-3 p.m.. Hands-on developmentally appropriate activities to explore a variety of forms of matter, light, and the five senses will be provided. Science education for our children has been in the news with facts that our children are falling behind in science concepts. The Junior Science lab that is offered at the library is a perfect opportunity to strengthen interest in science concepts. Registration is required. Interested parents may log on at www.scgov.net/library for information. The Selby Library is located at 1331 1st Street in Sarasota.
A movie with popcorn will also be offered by Selby Library on June 20th for ages 5-12 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The movie is free along with popcorn. This is a great time to come in from the summer heat and relax for the afternoon. You are invited to bring your own pillow to enjoy the movie and popcorn.
