Over the years, The LEGO® Group has designed and sold many lines of themed LEGO® kits for building people and places from popular science fiction and fantasy stories such as Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Batman, Harry Potter, and Star Wars.
Master LEGO® builders often use these sets for inspiration or as a starting point, but true artistry enters the equation when they arrange and modify the pieces to create huge, detailed scenes from familiar movies and television shows.
Other LEGO® builders make up their own designs, building big LEGO® versions of characters or constructing science fiction sets from scratch such as the Doctor's Tardis or the bridge of the Enterprise.
See the slideshow below for a sampling of some of the best science-fiction and fantasy themed LEGO® displays shown at the 2009 Brickworld LEGO® fan event.

Creativity and building with LEGO® blocks
Children visiting Brickworld 2009 and witnessing how these builders have combined and adapted LEGO® sets to build representations of figures and scenes from popular shows could be inspired to go home and experiment with their own LEGO® toys.
Instead of being frustrated because a LEGO® set does not exist for their favorite ship or building from a movie, Brickworld attendees might now understand that it can be a fun challenge to create one's own LEGO® designs. With a little inspiration and perseverance (plus a lot of LEGO® bricks!), young creators can build fantastic creations far beyond any set image pictured on the side of a LEGO® box.
