It was literally yesterday’s news but after hours of unconfirmed reports JJ Abrams will be directing Star Wars VII. JJ Abrams is no stranger to the sci-fi genre as he is best known for directing the last two Star Trek movies, side note Star Trek into Darkness is currently in post-production and will hit theatres this summer. While most sci-fi fans endorse Abrams direct the next Star Wars movie, some hardcore Star Trek and Star Wars are not too thrilled to have one director film two competing movie franchises.
On a lower key news story coming out of Warner Bros. Nic Mathieu is in talks to direct Robotech a big budget film adaption of the revered anime featuring transforming jet fighter robots fighting aliens. According to the Hollywood Reporter Robotech has been in development for many years and this is the first time a director has been in negotiations to helm the project.
Robotech was a 1980s cartoon series produced by Harmony Gold USA and Japan’s Tatsunoko Productions. In the United States Robotech was adapted, re-edits and re-dialogues, from three anime series to give Harmony Gold USA enough episodes to air for daily syndication.
