Schwarzenegger to reprise role in new release 'The Legend of Conan' in 2014

Reprising his role that made the original film a cult hit, Arnold Schwarzenegger will return in “The Legend of Conan.” The Conan franchise will be in theaters to hopefully bring the story back to its original state.

Universal Pictures is choosing to reboot the Conan series, after the 2011 film bombed at the box office. Actor Jason Momoa brought in a loss of $48 million after $90 million was spent on the film. Universal has chosen to bring back the original star that made the Conan films worth watching.

How will the former Governor do? It can go either way.

Chris Morgan of “Fast and the Furious 3 –6” fame may be penning the screenplay for the new “The Legend of Conan” film. Morgan may be preoccupied with “Fast and the Furious 7” while the production of “Legend of Conan” is taking place, although Morgan would be involved in producing the film. Fredrik Malmberg of Paradox Entertainment will be involved as well in production, since Paradox holds the rights to the Conan franchise.

The plot? Malmberg talks about the film with enthusiasm.

The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla and wants to go out with a good battle.

Arnold is fitting for the reprisal, as his own life has advanced further in years. The film would pick up where Arnold is in reality, in terms of age.

This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.

Both the 2011 reboot and the 1984 sequel film titled “Conan the Destroyer” will be as if they never happened. The new release will be based upon the story of the original film.

“The Legend of Conan” is shooting for a 2014 release date, although an exact date is still not certain.

I have been a film critic for years. As a writer, I love to experience the writer's art as it comes alive on the screen.
