In the never-ending search for a good and moderately healthy breakfast alternative to cereal I found the Schwan’s LiveSmart English Muffin Sandwich. It has 230 calories and 6g of fat with 28 carbs. So, not bad actually. It uses a turkey sausage patty, egg whites and low fat cheese.
Since it is frozen let’s talk about the heating process. This is a new one to me – you take the egg and sausage and cook them in the microwave for 45 secs separately, then you put the sandwich back together and cook it for an additional minute. It works well, but it keeps you near the microwave since you have to break it apart then put it back together.
The real question is – How does it taste?
Well, the muffin is not hard and chewy like most microwave muffins and has a decent flavor - it tastes like an English muffin. The egg is egg whites and is sorta low on flavor, but the turkey patty has a good mix of flavor and spices so that it helps bring the whole thing together. This is a good option for a quick, hot breakfast if you have to watch what you are eating but really want the sausage/egg/muffin concept. Overall I would rate it 4/5 and I would buy it again.
