Lucie – “Musicians just aren’t like other people.”
Schroeder – “You’re right. We’re Gods...”
This weekend sees the grand opening of the newest gem in the crown of Sonoma Counties rich music world.
lmost two years ago our community was so greatly enriched by the opening of Weill Hall, part of the Green Music center on the campus of Sonoma State University. This world class venue has already brought such outstanding performers as Itzhak perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Jessye Norman and Herbie Hancock to our community.
Now...our music environment is further enriched with the grand opening of Schroeder Hall, this weekend with the sold out inaugural performance by David Benoit on Friday evening. This concert is to honor philanthropist, Jean Schulz, wife of the late Charles Schulz, of “Peanuts,” fame. Mrs. Schulz will be honored at the concert with the evening’s concert, “Tribute to Charlie Brown.”
The Grand Opining festivities continue throughout the weekend with a wide spectrum of concerts on Saturday and Sunday, concerts that are free to the community. Although the concerts are free you do need to go to the website and down load a ticket.
Schroeder Hall, with it’s 250 seat capacity, was specifically designed as a venue for more intimate concerts as opposed to it’s big brother, Weill Hall with a capacity of some 1,400, more if you count the lawn.
When all of the Green Music Center’s plans are complete, (there are also plans for an amphitheater equal to the Hollywood Bowl) Sonoma county will play host to one of the most prestigious music venues in the world.
The worlds finest wines, great food, exquisite scenery, lovely mountains, the pacific ocean, Dungeness crab AND the world’s greatest music. What more could one ask.
