Just when you think you’ve seen enough heirloom tomatoes, a fresh faced group of young rock players showed up to perform at yesterday’s Westport Farmer’s Market. The teenage musicians, from Fairfield’s School of Rock performed in classic rock style to a delighted crowd of shoppers.
According to Music Director Francesco Perrouna, the School of Rock trains students from ages 7 through 18 in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals and performing in combos, using the techniques of classic rock to teach the fundamentals of musicianship. He also noted that they also have an adult program following much the same curriculum, but that “they whine a lot more.”
Yesterday’s performers included Jake Greenwald, Michael Gurge, Justin Slosberg, Rebecca Webster, Mike Chapin, Daniel Dineen, Sara Keden, Sam Boyle, Jessica Gross, Andrew Wasserman, and Nina Harold.
The School of Rock started in Philadelphia in 1998, and now has nearly 100 franchised locations throughout the US.
It was terrific to see these young musicians performing with such confidence and panache.
