As a musician, it is very hard – actually, almost impossible – to find other musicians who are talented and love music just the same as you do. If you have ever tried to put a band together, you understand the pain of meeting some of the most “interesting” people on this planet. Not only are you thrusting yourself into an environment where you are alone in a room with a complete stranger (who is more than likely that really creepy guy you saw at Wal-Mart at 1:00 am) but they can’t even play their instrument and have no idea what music theory even means. This is why places like School of Rock are so perfect for students who really want to play in a talented band and learn skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
School of rock has been inspiring and teaching music to young rock stars in almost every major city since 2002. The students get together in a supervised setting and learn how to work together as a team. They then do a very competent job at making some of the best rock songs in history come back to life again. They perform shows all around the city and can even go on tour as part of the “All Star Band”. The School of Rock has just landed in Arizona for the first time and their Scottsdale location just opened up this past summer. So far, they have performed twice at Salt River Fields, once at Martini Ranch and on January 26th, and they will be performing for the 2nd time at The Roxy Lounge in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The passion these kids have for music is truly inspiring and can turn the most disgruntled, burnt-out, “done chasing the dream” musician into a believer again. In order to give up a lot of freedom and time for an art that you fell in love with, you need a lot of dedication and passion for it. Over time, that passion and love starts to dim and the reality hits you that it is almost impossible to reach the goals you set out to achieve. But seeing the excitement on a kid’s face from playing “Sunshine of Your Love” for the first time or the solo to “Highway to Hell” in front of a crowd people is priceless. It reminds you of why you had started this whole crazy dream in the first place and renews all your love and passion for your art again.
