On Feb. 6, 2013, state officials in Calif. shut down a Carson preschool after allegations that students had engaged in oral sex.
According to KABC 7, the California Dept. of Social Services stated in a letter that it closed First Lutheran Church of Carson School because it was “determined that there was an immediate risk to the children in care.”
The letter was sent to parents with officials offering to help find child care arrangements for them.
KABC broke the story on Feb. 1, after one father, Richard McCarthy, said his son had received oral sex while at the preschool on multiple occasions.
McCarthy, as well as five other families, have filed suit against the school over the sex allegations.
According to KABC, the suit alleges that a female student—just five years old—drew all over McCarthy’s son's genitalia and buttocks during nap time using a marker.
The report indicates that in Oct. 2012, a teacher allegedly walked in on the girl who did the drawing and McCarthy’s son in an unlocked bathroom as the girl performed oral sex on the boy.
McCarthy’s attorney, Greg Owen, told CBS LA the girl was molested by another student in 2012 and school officials turned a blind eye to the incident. He said the child’s family is also part of the lawsuit.
A statement made by the school’s interim pastor, Mark Witte, stated, “The decision to go into an inactive status was made based on the fact that our director has resigned, for personal reasons, and we have not been able to secure a full-time director in a timely manner. Her decision to resign is not related to the allegations,” reports CBS.
