On Monday afternoon, a school bus driver in Collinsville forced some students to walk home alone and forced others to remain on the bus for over an hour why the driver apparently had some sort of nervous breakdown. Needless to say that many parents were quite upset over the incident. The kids who did walk home were forced to cautiously walk along a single lane road during heavy traffic. The children were picked up from Doris Intermediate School and after a short bus ride, the driver pulled over near the high traffic intersection of Keebler and Beltine.
The bus driver justified his reasons because the kids were too rowdy. Reportedly, one of the kids later stated that the bus driver yelled at the kids and stated that they could either call their parents or just walk home! Well, this is one good reason for children to have a cell phone. Several kids were able to borrow phones from other students to call their parents. One parent stated that she showed up at the bus and asked for her daughter and that the bus driver did not verify the names of children or the adults and as far as she was concerned the driver could have let strangers take the kids without a remorse.
Needless to say that the school district has terminated the unidentified bus driver's employment.
