A Bartow County School Board member has resigned following an arrest stemming from a parking lot incident at Walmart.
Superintendent John Harper confirmed Angie Cornett resigned Thursday.
Cornett's resignation comes nearly a week after she was arrested for allegedly striking a teenager with her SUV.
Cornett was charged with reckless conduct by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 28 following the incident, which has received nationwide attention.
According to an incident report, Cornett’s Lexus SUV “was used with such velocity that it obviously endangered the bodily safety” of a 17-year-old who was standing in a parking space.
The teen told a deputy that she was saving the space for her brother’s girlfriend who had recently given birth the report stated.
The report also stated Cornett contended that she did not strike the girl who had visible tread marks on her pants.
According to the report, Cornett said the teenager leaned into her vehicle causing the marks, which the arresting officer measured and matched to the SUV.
However the report stated video surveillance showed Cornett suddenly accelerate and strike the teenager who was physically moved by the force of the vehicle.
