The Belleville Board of Education on Monday night approved a grant to re-wire the high School's computers, retrofit the Middle School's auditorium seats, and install new middle school rooftop cooling systems.
The school board approved the 2013 New Jersey SDA ROD Facilities Grant Program, but exact money figures were not publicized.
The resolution accept the grant states that "the high school is in need of a telecom upgrade to meet code, bandwidth and standardized testing (that) will require re-wiring of the Ethernet infrastructure with appropriate cable trays, receptacle boxes, hubs and wireless routers for increased internet bandwidth and increased number of wireless access points."
The middle school "requires retrofits to the auditorium, and the existing seats must be replaced with new seats and the middle school and School No. need new rooftop cooling systems."
The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) Regular Operating Districts (ROD) School Facilities grant program pays up to 40 percent of eligible project costs if approved by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
Tthe deadline for submission was Sept. 4.
The SDA ROD School Facilities grant program guidelines require that an amendment to the Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP) be submitted with the application.
- At the meeting, the board also accept the donation of Thesauruses for the sixth graders of Belleville by the Belleville Elks Lodge No. 1123.
