An M Live.com reports that Michigan students attending a Zeeland elementary school will no longer be permitted to play tag or chase after one another. School officials have named this the “No Tag, No Chasing” policy.
The school considers tag as too rough for kindergartners.
The school sent letters home last Wednesday and then a follow up letter on Thursday to clarify the policy.
The first letter described the problem of children running in packs, pushing and knocking each other over.
"We want our children to treat each other with respect, kindness, and with safety in mind," said Ginger Smith, community relations manager for Zeeland Public Schools, on Friday.
The school is K – 5 and has 68 children in kindergarten.
Teachers said the new policy will protect students from being hurt.
Although the school says they have not received any complaints, they realize that at least one parent contacted the media about the new policy.
Punishment for aggressive behavior will include removal from play, a letter to parents and missed recesses.
