ASSE International Student Exchange Program has a scholarship exchange student from Russia named Yelena who is hoping to spend an academic year in high school in the U.S. They are having a hard time placing her because she has Celiac Disease. Most of their interested families are finding her dietary needs intimidating, so they are looking for a family that is familiar with Celiac to take in this student and make her dream of studying in the U.S.A. a reality.
ASSE International Student Exchange Programs are a high school student exchange program that works closely with more than 60 countries worldwide to bring young scholars to the U.S. to study in an American high school for a semester or academic year. They work to place students with American host families in order to promote cultural understanding. They have been placing students since 1976 and they began placing FLEX, Department of State scholarship students from former Soviet Union countries, a few years ago. Their student, Yelena, is the first student they have ever had with Celiac disease.
