Once again the celebration of a High Mass at the Church of the Advent of Christ the King will provide the occasion for a stimulating selection of music by the church’s resident choir Schola Adventus led by Director of Music Paul Ellison. The occasion will be the Feast of the Annunciation, and the mass setting will be by Tomás Luis de Victoria, his Missa De Beata Maria. Victoria’s music will also be used for the anthem (“Ave Regina Caelorum”) and motet (“Agnus Dei”). The gradual will be a setting of the Hail Mary (“Ave Maria”) prayer by Victoria’s English contemporary Robert Parsons. The prelude for the opening Procession will be the second of two meditations on the Annunciation composed in 1961 by the French organist Marcel Dupré, while the postlude will be a selection of pieces by Dupré’s eighteenth-century predecessor, Michel Corrette.

This service will take place this coming Tuesday, March 25. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 261 Fell Street, between Franklin Street and Gough Street. The church may be contacted at 415-431-0454 if there are any further questions.
