If you love ghost stories then you won't want to miss a special Halloween season event being held at the historic Schoenbrunn Village in New Philadelphia, Ohio on Thursday, October 24, Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. New Philadelphia is approximately a 90 minute drive from Cleveland.
Legend of Sleepy Hollow After being led by lantern light to a glowing bonfire, visitors will be treated to a dramatic reading and reenactment of Washington Irving's classic tale, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" set in upstate New York that tells the story of schoolmaster Ichabod Crane, the beautiful Katrina Van Tassell and of course, the Headless Horseman. There are rumors that the Headless Horseman will make an appearance. Are those horse hooves I hear?
The production will also feature a country reel dance. Townspeople will serve pumpkin muffins and cider to guests during the dance.
Hours for the Sleepy Hollow event at Schoenbrunn Village are 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. all three days. Tickets are $12 for adults and for children. Reservations are required. Parking is free. Make sure you bring a blanket. The Village's gift shop will be open after the production.
A Bit About Schoenbrunn Village Schoenbrunn ("Beautiful Spring" in the Native American Delaware language) Village was first settled in 1772 by Moravian missionary David Zeisberger. It was the home to Ohio's first Christian church and first schoolhouse.
Today the reconstructed village consists of the church, schoolhouse and 17 log cabins. Visitors can tour the Village's original cemetery, "God's Acre." There is also a museum, theatre, gift shop and picnic areas.
