Fordham has been beseiged by legal and logistical problems since severe water damage was caused by drainage problems last year from a new apartment building next to the bar. The apartment building’s owner, Christopher Maddalone, has publicly acknowledged the fault is his. However, he is involved in a dispute with his insurance company that has delayed payment.
To make matters worse, the Union Inn’s suit against the apartment developer has not gone to trial, so there is no financial gain in the foreseeable future . Fordham was quoted Monday by local news media as saying she has simply run out of money and can't reopen the business.
