In just its first week, Timothy Schaffert's new book has been recognized by Oprah's Book Club 2.0 as a book they "couldn't stop reading," reviewed in The Washington Post, reviewed with an online interview by BookPage, and praised by other writers and publishing-related entities.

The review in the Post gives leaves readers with the impression that "The Swan Gondola" is very good, and the one in BookPage (a monthly review of new books distributed to many public libraries including Omaha's) was shorter but completely positive, as reviews almost always are in BookPage.

A review in the Washington Independent Review of Books, like the one in the Post, was very positive.

Other recent interviews of Schaffert are also online, including an excellent one online at the Omaha Public Library.

The New York Times has praised Schaffert's novels, and a quote from them is on the cover of the new one, his fifth.

Schaffert read from his book and signed copies for an audience of about 30 at The Bookworm in Omaha Saturday after discussing the book the evening before at the opening of the downtown public library's display on the 1898 World's Fair held in Omaha. The Omaha World's Fair is the setting for much of "The Swan Gondola," a historical novel considered Victorian by the Washington Post reviewer.

Schaffert has long been known to Omaha readers for his writing. Before becoming a published author of novels he edited the Omaha alternative weekly known as the Reader and another shorter-lived satirical publication called Pulp. He also has been published in literary journals.
