Besides the downtown event Friday evening in conjunction with Omaha Public Library's display on the 1898 Omaha World's Fair, at which Tiimothy Shaffert will discuss his new book, he will speak Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Bookworm Bookstore at 8702 Pacific Street in Omaha.
These events the next two days in Omaha are part of Schaffert's promotion of his new novel, "The Swan Gondola," set in 1898 Omaha at its Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition.
The novel, Schaffert's fifth, is his first historical novel and his second book set in Omaha. The public library has been assembling an impressive display about the 1898 Omaha World's Fair (also called the Omaha Exposition), work that can already be seen at the downtown branch of the library where Schaffert will appear in a two-hour program starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
Schaffert has been appearing in television and magazine interviews in advance of the new book, as well as an interview at the Omaha Public Library website. Previously his fiction has been reviewed in the New York Times.
