One of southern Indiana’s most popular drives in Jackson-Washington State Forest near Brownstown will be closed for about three weeks to make emergency repairs to sections of the road.
No start or finish date was announced by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in a news release. The Indiana Department of Transportation is making the repairs to the road, which is state-owned.
Four areas of the five-mile drive will be stabilized, the DNR said.
Skyline Drive offers amazing vistas of the surrounding countryside, and features a historic fire tower, picnic areas with grills, and the Skyline Shelter House. The shelter was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, and was rebuilt recently by local volunteers after arson damaged the original structure.
Call the state forest property at 812-358-2160 for the latest updates on the project and access to Skyline Drive.
