Get out, get fit, and spend nothing but gas with a jog through the Scenic Trail. Bring your basketball, frisbee, swimsuit and football to mix in extra fun. There are several basket courts along the trail, many large areas suitable for football, and an extreme frisbee course along the majority of the trail. As an added benefit throughout the trail you have opportunities to climb up hills to work your gluts, run down steep inclines to work on balance, and areas great for interval training.
The trail is predominantly asphalt and surrounded on one side the entire way by a park and on the other by either park or a river. There are several miles that are completely shaded for easy summer running and then many areas in full sun for winter workouts. The parking is free. Many people bring their dogs so don't worry about leaving your precious animals at home.
The largest parking lot off for scenic park is less than two hours from Fresno. From Fresno take Highway 99 North for approximately 90 minutes and then take the Briggsmore exit and turn right. Continue until you reach the intersection of Briggsmore and Mitchell Road/El Vista. At this intersection on one side as of February 5, 2013 there was a chiropractor's office, on the other two sides are small strip malls and at the fourth corner is the parking lot. Please do not worry about using the lavoratories here as there are many other lavatories along the way, most of which in my experience seem to be cleaner. Similarly there are a multitude of drinking fountains along the way so you need not worry about these either.
