This weeks "Scenic Rides in San Antonio" covers a route from the southside out to a small town named "Somerset". Somerset happens to be where I grew up and believe me when I tell you, I've rode many miles around them parts. This ride starts at Military Drive and Somerset Road. Turn onto South Somerset road and continue on your liesurely ride. You'll come to an intersection at loop 1604 and Somerset road. Go straight through the intersection and roll through downtown Somerset Texas! You'll come to a traffic light and you'll want to turn towards the town of Lytle. This is a decent stretch of road for an enjoyable ride. Continue on and you'll come to I35. Go on under I35 and immediately turn left going towards Natalia. Take the first exit (Benson City Road) turn left on Benson City and ride on!!! When Benson City comes to a T. Turn left and roll a short distance and you'll come to another T in the road, you'll be back on the route you took to get to Lytle. This time turn right and head back towards Somerset. At the traffic light, turn left and ride through downtown Somerset again. You'll come to the insection of 1604 and Somerset road again. Now you can either go straight through and ride back down Somerset road going back into town, or you could turn right and 1604 will take you to Hwy 16 (poteet hwy) or ride on and go to 281, or further to I37. If you choose to turn left at the insection of 1604 and Somerset road, this will take you to Loop 410 and also further into the neighborhood of Southwest and even to SeaWorld!.
