Scattered storms possible this afternoon and this evening, then dry overnight

A cold front will move southward across the region today. It will be warm and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible this afternoon. A couple of the storms could be strong with gusty winds and hail possible.

Tonight, the cold front will settle to our south where it will stall. Low pressure will develop across the upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday, and move toward the lower Great Lakes by Wednesday afternoon. This will cause the front to our south to begin lifting northward again as a warm front. While most of tonight will be dry, showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Wednesday afternoon in advance of the approaching low pressure system and warm front.

The low will track just south of our area Wednesday night. A large complex of thunderstorms will track eastward across the region during the night as the system passes. Severe weather is possible with damaging winds being the primary threat.

On Thursday, a few showers could linger as colder air aloft spreads across the area in the wake of the low.

Here is the forecast: For today, partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs will be in the low 80s. Winds SW 10-15 mph.

Tonight, partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the evening. Lows will be in the mid 50s. Winds NW 5-10 mph.

Wednesday, partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Winds NW 5-10 mph.

Wednesday night, cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.

Thursday, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Highs will be around 70.

Extended Analysis: High pressure will build across the region Friday and Saturday. Both days will be dry with seasonable temperatures.

As the high moves to our east Sunday, warmer and more humid air will overspread the region. With the increase in humidity will come the threat of showers and thunderstorms by Sunday afternoon.

Friday, mostly sunny with highs in the mid 70s.

Friday night, clear with lows in the low 50s.

Saturday, mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday, partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Highs will be around 80.
