Scattered showers and thunderstorms develop late, some severe, strong winds

Miami Valley , Whitewater Valley, and the I-71 corridor of Ohio/Indiana:

Thunderstorms and heavy rain showers will increase in coverage moving into the Western viewing area late evening and lasting until 1am in the Eastern viewing area. Some of these thunderstorms will be capable of damaging winds, small hail, and even a isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The strongest storms with the greatest tornado threat will likely be SW of our region due to less snow cover and warmer temperatures. Snow cover keeps the ground from warming to much and can prohibit thunderstorms from growing to strong. However the wind field within this low pressure is extremely tight meaning any thunderstorms that forms will have to do little work to tap and bring some strong winds down to the surface. Gust with the thunderstorms could top 55 pm for some. Even with out thunderstorms wind fields will support strong damaging wind gust along the front and behind the front early tonight then dying out late. Winds will once again pick up tomorrow and could be stronger at times as the sun heats the ground and causes a great difference in temperature profile from surface to aloft. There is also a flooding threat tonight with any heavy rain that falls on saturated ground from snow melt. Tomorrow will be windy but clear skies will return, however temps will be considerably cooler in the 40s. Saturday will be one more day to enjoy the warmth with temps near 50 and sunshine before a cold front brings the chance of some light snow/rain Saturday night and brings colder air in by Sunday.

Long range:
A stronger cold front will move through Tuesday night bringing even colder air and the chance for some light snow Tuesday night and Wednesday. Cold air will persist with us through at least next weekend.
