Scathing obituary written for abusive mother goes viral online and in social media. An obituary written for Marianne Theresa Johnson-Reddick, 78, revealed a lifetime of abuse and neglect. According to Detroit Free Press on Sept. 13, 2013, her daughter, Katherine Reddick, 57, wrote the nine-sentence death notice that first appeared in the Reno-Gazette Journal.
'On behalf of her children who she so abrasively exposed to her evil and violent life, we celebrate her passing from this earth and hope she lives in the after-life reliving each gesture of violence, cruelty and shame that she delivered on her children.'
The scathing obituary first appeared in the newspaper both online and in print. It was later submitted to, Legacy.com, an online obituary portal, but has since been taken down for inaccuracies. Soon after it made national news and went viral both online and in social media.
At least two of the children of the woman written about in the scathing obituary were taken away from her and put into an orphanage. Others spent years in foster care after sleeping on the floors of places where the mother ran an escort business according to a United Press International account.
Johnson-Reddick died of bladder cancer in a Reno nursing home, where she was a ward of the state. The full text of the original scathing obituary can be read here in the Reno-Journal gazette.
