A magical celebration of wizards and Quidditch awaits those Philadelphians and visitors who are brave enough to partake! The Harry Potter Weekend COURTESY OF THE CHESTNUT HILL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION runs from October 18-19. The Neighborhood will be turned into Diagon Alley! A real Halloween Celebrations Galore fit for the whole family!
There will be wizardry and wonder in the air this October as Chestnut Hill transforms for the Harry Potter Festival. On October 18-19, the Chestnut Hill neighborhood plays host to a weekend’s worth of spellbinding magical and mysterious events that will keep children and adults, and wizards and muggles, mystified, dazzled and thoroughly entertained! It is a Special Hogwartsian Itinerary that fans of Harry Potter will be talking about for years and years to come!
An Opening Sorting Hat Ceremony, A Horcrux Scavenger Hunt And So Much More!
The popular event features familiar characters from the world of Harry Potter, special activities for fans of all ages, live entertainment, food and more. Hunt for Horcruxes, watch local colleges face-off at a Quidditch tournament and more during the magical weekend celebration.
It all begins Friday, October 18 be there or be square. The magical celebration begins on Friday October 18th in the evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Top of the Hill Fountain Plaza with the Opening Ceremony. Enchanting characters from the world of Harry Potter and a Thestral from Northwestern Stables will be featured. Later that evening, adult wizards and muggles can join the Harry Potter pub crawl at 7 p.m. Tickets are required.
On Saturday, October 19 there is the Quidditch Tournament! Come cheer on your favorite Quidditch team at the 4th Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup at Chestnut Hill College starting at 9:45 a.m. Free and open to the public, the tournament showcases local college Quidditch teams facing off on the Softball Field and Summer House Lawn. Bring your appetite because there will be Food and special Harry Potter inspired treats like the tasty Butter Beer! Special Harry Potter memorabilia and souvenirs will be available including; t-shirts, broom pens and more.
Some special activities include a “Hunt for the Horcrux”, Dumbledore’s Powers Maze at Woodmere Art Museum, Defense of the Dark Arts Classes, sorting hat demonstrations and much more. Wizards and muggles will have no problem getting around town thanks to the complimentary Knight Bus Trolley. The festival comes to a close with a special ceremony at Norwood-Fontbonne Academy.
*Taking public transportation to Chestnut Hill is encouraged for wizards and muggles alike.
