So Halloween is tomorrow and if you're like most folks, you're watching scary movies to commemorate the season. While the traditional slasher flicks, vampire movies and psycho-dramas are popular, if you are looking for something a little more glamorous, yet still suspenseful and thrilling, The Lady of Burlesque is the scary movie for you.
The 1943 movie was based on the novel The G-String Murders by burlesque queen, Gypsy Rose Lee and stars Barbara Stanwyck and Michael O'Shea. Stanwyck plays Dixie Daisy, a burlesque star who's cast mates are murdered backstage at a burlesque theater. This cheeky whodunnit is a great peek into the culture of the burlesque houses during the Golden Age of Burlesque. Burlesque comic and later TV host, Pinky Lee also appears as (what else) a comic in the show.
Looking for more ways to incorporate burlesque into your Halloween festivities? Burlesque performances at The Wake might be just the thing.

I have seen this movie, it is a totally underrated black and white gem. This movie is like traveling back in time to the Sigfield Follies vaudville circuit days. All the old school slang and dialogue are smart and so colorful. Loved it. Thanks Ginger.
