While the temps continue to hover around "Artic" in Minnesota for another day, it behooves this girl to point out one of the easiest ways to up your style ante AND stay warmer:
Add a scarf to your look.
Simple, no? One small accessory can improve your entire outfit and keep you one step further from frostbite. Knowing this, men of Minnesota, what should you look for? There are a couple of elements to consider while picking out a scarf. Read on to master these elements, and then ... get thee a scarf!
- Length - Important question: are you the dude who just wants to keep his neck warm, but doesn't want to learn how to tie one more thing (ties and shoelaces being more than enough ...)? Or are you the dude comfortable with switching your style with different wrapping methods? The answers to these questions will help you determine the length of scarf to look for - keep it shorter if you want to pull it up around your neck, but tuck the ends under your coat. Don't shy away from long lengths if you want to be a bit more creative.
- Pattern/Color - We're all about versatility here, so will argue for neutrals: black, grey, tan, etc. Pick something that works back to the major color of your coat(s). For visual interest, consider a subtle plaid or texture to make your scarf pop.
- Fabric - Be willing to pay for something that feels good. Wool is warm - cheap wool can be scratchy. Cashmere is like petting a soft puppy. See the difference? Your neck will too.
Because it's the "end of winter" by retail standards, check out stores' sale sections for your scarf options. We love the Faribault Woolen Mill's classic and local options! Order online or find at local retailers like BlackBlue (in St Paul) or occasionally at Edina-based Ampersand.
