A post today on the official Magic: The Gathering website has revealed some striking information regarding the upcoming Scars of Mirrodin and "affiliated" decks.

It's official - All cards in Scars of Mirrodin are affiliated with one of the two factions in the set, meaning the watermark on Sword of Body and Mind almost certainly "affiliates" it with one of the two factions.

We'll just post the exact wording here so it's clear what's going on with affiliated decks in Scars of Mirrodin:

"What does it mean to "affiliate" your Standard deck?
All cards in Scars of Mirrodin are affiliated with one of the two factions in the set. An affiliated deck must have at least ten main-deck cards from the chosen faction, and none in the main deck or sideboard from the opposing faction. The deck must still be Standard legal."

The biggest takeaway here is clearly that two factions have been confirmed for Scars of Mirrodin, and that each and every card featured in the set will be designated to one of the factions.

This information lends some credibility to the rumor that the set will in fact be divided into two different "pack types", one for each faction, but for now we'll have to wait and see what's next for Scars of Mirrodin.
