When Scarlett Johansson was announced as a spokesperson for Soda Stream, there was a cheer from Hollywood. One of the sexiest actresses to walk the face of the earth was going to be seen by the world. Well, that idea was offered prematurely. Apparently Scarlett Johansson won’t be seen on game day as the commercial was declined by FOX. According to Deadline the decision by the network is final and the ad can only be viewed online.
There have been banned Super Bowl ads before, but nothing with a A-list star in the commercial. Add that the spot is well put together and there is nothing too risqué so the decision is rather odd. However, there might be another reason the ad was put to pasture. The competition of Soda Stream might not have appreciated all the focus.
According to USA Today, the CEO of Soda Stream alleged that one of the reasons Fox rejected the Super Bowl commercial was because of Coke and Pepsi. Daniel Birnbaum compared the decision to doing business in China. Obviously the company is upset after spending so much money on Scarlett Johansson, but then again all is not lost. The commercial that won’t be on the Super Bowl is getting an epic amount of exposure as people watch ScarJo sip from that straw again and again.
