Ever since Scarlett Johansson's divorce from Ryan Reynolds was finalized in 2011, fans have wondered if and when the blonde beauty would ever try married life again. Scarlett, or ScarJo as her fans affectionately call her, said repeatedly in the media that being a wife wasn't important to her since she was working steadily and happy with her life. She dated several people, including controversial actor Sean Penn, but she never seemed ready to settle down again—until recently, that is.
Scarlett began dating Romain Dauriac in November 2012, more than a year after her divorce was finalized. Even though she didn't talk about him in the press, rumors began swirling that perhaps the French-born Dauriac might just get Scarlett to walk down the aisle again. As early as February 2013, just four months after the couple began dating, there were whispers in the press that the couple was engaged. Scarlett's representative flatly denied the rumors, and nothing was heard again until the actress was seen at the Venice Film Festival wearing an eye-popping ring on the red carpet for the screening of her film "Under the Skin."
As the paparazzi eagerly snapped countless pictures of the bauble, reporters began trying to confirm whether or not ScarJo and Dauriac were really engaged. Initially, the actress was cagey about her marital status, and her rep wasn't very forthcoming. Finally, after several days of rumors, her rep confirmed that the two are engaged, though no details of the proposal were divulged. When asked whether the two lovebirds had set a date yet, the rep would only say that no date had been set, but the couple is very happy together.
Scarlett did seem to be over the moon, smiling broadly and glowing at all of her many public appearances in support of "Under Her Skin." By the time she was ready to begin promoting "Don Jon," the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, her engagement had become official, though she still wouldn't talk much about Dauriac. That left the press wondering just who this 31-year-old Frenchman was.
Dauriac is a journalist and former editor of the French magazine "Clark," which is a periodical that focuses mainly on French urban art. He is currently the manager of a creative advertising agency in his native France, a job that must give him plenty of flexibility regarding his schedule considering how often he jets around the world to be with ScarJo. Though his business is in France, Scarlett is based primarily in Los Angeles. Will he move across the Atlantic to be with his lady love? Nobody seems to know for sure, and the very private Scarlett probably won't be divulging that information anytime soon.
The ring is a real stunner, an antique-looking piece that looks like it could have been a part of an art deco collection. It is a rectangle with three rather large round diamond insets. The ring would seem to fit in with Dauriac's background as an art magazine editor since it looks almost like a piece of art on its own. It's a far cry from the very basic round diamond on a simple gold band that Reynolds put on her finger five years before. The retro-inspired look of the ring is also a good fit with Scarlett's retro bombshell aesthetic since she is a classic beauty in so many ways. Now the classic beauty gets a chance to walk down the aisle again, hopefully this time for good.
The actress was previously married to fellow actor Reynolds, whom she met in 2007. A year later, they were engaged, finally taking the plunge in Reynolds' native Canada in the fall of 2008. The notoriously private couple never spoke much about their marriage, which is why it came as a shock to many of their fans when Reynolds announced their separation in December 2010. Their divorce was finalized the next summer, and Reynolds went on to marry "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively a little over a year later.
The actress has a busy schedule ahead of her. This winter, she will be gearing up to promote the Spike Jonze film "Her," followed by what is sure to be a lengthy press tour for the Marvel extravaganza "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier" in the spring. She also has two other films coming out in 2014, and the much-anticipated "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," is due out in 2015. It looks like the future Mrs. Dauriac might need the help of a wedding planner, considering her very busy schedule.
