Tenessee William's masterpiece 'Cat on a hot tin roof' is back on Broadway with a dream cast starring Scarlett Johansson as Maggie "The Cat" and Benjamin Walker as husband Brick. Set in Mississippi 'Cat on a hot tin roof' shows the demise of an affluent southern family of plantation owners. Patriarch Big Daddy Pollit has just been cleared of a fatal disease and to celebrate this and his birthday the entire family is gathered around a lush family meal. Unfortunately, Big Daddy has been misled: in reality he is dying from cancer but to save him from agony and fear all family members lied about the true diagnosis.
Maggie "The Cat" married into the rich Pollitt family to escape poverty and a bleak future. Calculated and beautiful, her marriage to ex-football hero Brick is a sham. Brick is gradually losing himself in alcohol and remorse after the suicide of his best friend Skipper. Weary to see the family inheritance in the hands of Brick's brother, Maggie tries to gain control of her husband. An evening of simmering deceit and reproach, 'Cat on a hot tin roof' is an indepth portrayal of a family in disarray.
Immortalized in the 1958 movie version with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor as Brick and Maggie, the bar is extremely high for this Broadway revival. Directed by Tony and Emmy award winner Rob Ashford this 'Cat on a hot tin roof' is a worthy interpretation of Tennessee William's timeless play.
