Scared to death in 2014

How fearful and insecure must one be in order to shoot and kill another person over something as innocuous as texting, popcorn or loud music? America has become a wild, wild, mess because we are scared to death of one another. Frightened by kernels of popcorn, retired police officer, Curtis Reeves, gunned down Chad Oulson inside a Florida movie theater filled with children/families; elsewhere in Jacksonville, Florida, fearful of their loud music 45-year-old Michael Dunn, shot into a car full of teenagers killing Jordan Davis. In both cases fear was cited as the culprit entitling the shooters to take the lives of others.

There has been an alarming increase in shootings across the USA, just 30 days into 2014: Brandon Robinson, 20-year-old football player, at South Carolina State University was shot by 19-year-old Justin Bernard Singleton; Andrew Boldt, 21-year-old Purdue University teaching assistant, was shot in Indiana; a 19-year-old student was shot and killed at Widener University in Pennsylvania; 27-year-old, Dwayne Dyer, shot and killed two persons at a gas station in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida; a 17-year-old boy was shot by police at Honolulu’s Roosevelt High School in Hawaii; a boy and a girl (both 14-years-old were) shot at Berrendo Middle School in Roswell, New Mexico; a boy and a girl (both 15-years-old) were shot at Philadelphia’s Delaware Valley Charter High School; two people were killed by a gunman at a shopping mall in Columbia, Maryland; and here in Oakland, California, 14-year-old Mario Toliver Jr. shot and killed his 17-year-old sister, Justice Toliver. How many more citizens need die in fear for their lives?

Approximately 30,000 people are killed by guns in the USA annually and dozens of others are injured daily by fire arms. Meanwhile, the bereavement business, the weapons industry, the legal system, security-&-surveillance companies, and of course the prison-industrial-complex all reap enormous profits when people are scared to death of one another.
