During the week of Aug. 4- Aug. 8, the Scappoose Fire District responded to a variety of calls for assistance. These included the calls outlined below as well as five medical transports to hospitals and six non-transport calls for medical assessment.
Aug. 5— NW Wickstrom Drive: Personnel assisted a resident.
Aug. 5— Highway 30 and Walnut: Law enforcement cancelled fire response prior to arrival.
Aug. 5— SE Third Place, Grant Watts School: Commercial fire alarm activation was unintentional. A floor polisher caused the activation.
Aug. 6— Response to Rowena Fire: The Scappoose Fire Department received notification from the Oregon State Fire Marshal Office around 3:15 a.m. for Columbia County firefighters to mobilize to Rowena for a fire. Engines from Scappoose, Clatskanie, Mist-Birkenfeld, Vernonia & Columbia River Fire & Rescue responded along with SFD Chief Pricher as the Task Force Leader. The team left the Scappoose Fire Station at 6:15 a.m. The local task force is assigned structural protection, directly protecting evacuated homes from the fire.
Aug. 6— Hillcrest Drive: A residential fire alarm was determined to be a false alarm; the alarm system was malfunctioning.
Aug. 6— SW Chinook Plaza, near Dairy Queen: Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire and found no fire. Spilled transmission fluid on the hot engine created vapor.
Aug. 7— NW Wickstrom Drive: Firefighters assisted a resident.
Aug. 7— Bellcrest Road: Firefighters responded to illegal outdoor burning. The resident extinguished the fire and was given a verbal warning.
