Scandalous reporting on Michael Lyon, prominent local real estate man

I don't have any inside information on the divorce proceedings between Michael Lyon and his wife, Kim Lyon. Nor does our local newsstation, apparently. But heck, why let the truth get in the way of a good story?

Mike Lyon is a big name in Sacramento real estate. A juicy scandal about him is a ratings homerun. So, naturally, we stopped what we were doing to hear the 'breaking news' exclusively from CBS 13. The casual listener heard something like,  'Mike Lyon is under F.B.I. investigation for pedophilia and filming sex acts of minors'. That was the insinuated headline. The fine print disclosure stated that there is no confirmation of any such investigation, nor have any charges been filed against Mr. Lyon by any law enforcement agency- let alone, the F.B.I.

Here is what we know to be true. Mike Lyon is suing Kim Lyon for divorce. She may (or may not) have made allegations about his conduct. We don't know what those allegations are because the court documents are sealed. However, CBS 13 disingenuously reports, there is an injunction preventing Mr. Lyon from having overnight stays at his house of his teenage and adult sons. Further, he is enjoined against filming or recording anyone without their permission. Draw your own conclusions...

Again, I do not have any inside knowledge, but it seems to me, this could just as easily be a 'hell hath no fury' story about a wife kicked to the curb after a long marriage and, perhaps, vowing to destroy the offending husbands reputation and, by the way, planning to take him for everything he's got.

Or not. The point is, CBS 13 has no business reporting on a story based entirely on innuendo, colored by insinuation. Much has been made of 'citizen journalists' destroying the professional ethics and credibility of professional news reporters. In fact, the problem with professional journalism may be the professionalism of the professionals.

You are absolutely right! Unfortunately, Channel 13 said Kim Lyon is divorcing Mike Lyon. However, small print says Mike Lyon filed as petitioner in the divorce....so I think whatever Kim Lyon was trying to insinuate will come back to bite her, being Mike's reputations supersedes malicious accusations. Again, I agree about her motivations and wonder where the line is drawn with a violations of one's privacy of character. Shame on Kim Lyon.

Your Examiner story was used in quotes on this story:

Nice summary, regarding "professional journalists." I began to hold professionals suspect back in the 1980's when NBC rigged that Chevy truck to explode for their report on those trucks having higher than average fires after side impacts. It's been mostly downhill since.

Since when has CBS 13 News ever been accused of having "professional ethics and credibility of professional news reporters"? Calling CBS 13 a "news broadcast" is about like calling the Mexican drug cartels "agricultural co-ops."

Unfortunatley for Michael Lyon, there are many people that know about and have actually seen the disgusting pictures and video's of him actually filming sex acts of minors and prostitutes without their knowledge including me.

My column makes no judgement or accusation regarding either party in their divorce proceedings. I am only objecting to the CBS13 reporting without sufficient evidence of such a serious allegation.

Gossip is not News. Allegations are not Facts. The man I have know for over 25 years and respect is nothing like the stories I am hearing. Can you say 'photo-shopped'??

It looks to me like Mr. Lyon has the PR machine in high gear. Crocodile tears from a hack.....

Mike Lyon is probably guilty...of something...he is not a good man.
