SCA to hold summit: Correcting religious privileging in tax code

The Secular Coalition for America (SCA) is set to hold a national summit to discuss religious privileging in the tax code. The summit will be held on December 12, 2012, from 2:00 to 3:30 EST. This summit, which is being held with support from 11 organizations, will bring together secular leaders from around the nation to help the SCA prepare to address the new Congress in 2013, with concerns surrounding the cost to taxpayers resulting from privileges given to religious organizations. They also plan to explore disparities in the tax code that privilege churches over other non-profits. Their goal is to determine the best strategies for correcting the problem.

According to a notice regarding the summit, the SCA points out that "[a]n independent study published in FREE INQUIRY earlier this year found that religious privileging costs U.S. taxpayers $71 billion every year."

Those who wish to attend can join the discussion at 1012 14th St NW, Suite 205, Washington, D.C. Those who would like to be a part of the summit but are unable to attend are welcome to join by phone at 530-881-1400 Code: 703905.
