The mysterious photo of a man tucked inside a dog's collar has now traveled the world, Greenville County Animal Care Services reported on their Facebook page on January 24. The high-kill upstate shelter has heard from news agencies everywhere who are curious about the tale of a dog now known as Soldier.
To date, no one knows who the man in the photo is or was. Perhaps a past owner, who wanted to send a message showing Soldier was once very much loved.
Is Soldier's owner dead? Is Soldier lost? The photo appears to be of a man in uniform, but the branch of the military or the time period in which it was taken is unknown.
Unfortunately, we may never learn the answers to this fascinating story. Life does go on, and meanwhile Soldier has remained on death row at the shelter, waiting for an owner who never came for him.
This Examiner article documented his story.
Greenville County Animal Care Services announced yesterday that Soldier is now up for adoption. Anyone who is interested in adopting this special boy is asked to email the shelter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please share Soldier's story, and help the shelter find him a deserving, forever home. May the soldier in the photo somehow find comfort, from wherever he is, that everything possible is being done to find his formal companion a loving home.
