SB199 makes rate payers responsible for nuclear risks (Video)

The special interests are looking out for themselves on the hill without regard to anyone or anything else. The proposed SB199 would give Blue Castle the ability to recover the costs of a proposed nuclear power plant before it was even built.

Current rate payers would foot the bill for a new power plant without ever seeing a dime of their investment returned to them. It would not result in cheaper electricity, it would just serve to line the pockets of the people who built and operate the nuclear power plant.

If nuclear power is such a great investment, the company that is building the plant should not need to gouge the current electric consumers who may never even use the power generated by the plant.

Instead, Blue Castle insists on pushing their agenda down the throats of Utah voters. No one, including the sponsoring senator Curt Bramble, expects this bill to pass – wasting the senate’s time valuable time on something that carries with it the stink of favoritism and communism.

Utah doesn’t have the water or the environment to build and run a nuclear power plant safely, and it is apparent that the company seeking consumer rate payer handouts doesn’t have the money or financial backing to build it.

The people of Utah do not need to help corporations get rich.
