The doomsday threat of 2012 is finally over. Gone is the planning for survival and speculation about what might happen in the near future. In a few short hours the sun will rise like it has before, the calendar will turn over and many will be enjoying a holiday off work. This is the year some people didn't believe would come.
Many people put a lot of time, effort and energy into preparations to surive the 2012 doomsday. So the day came and went. Like the day before and the day after. So were the preparations all for nothing?
Not necessarily.
If you had made a plan for the 2012 doomsday by stocking up on food and water, save energy and put those resources to use by trying to do a 'mock' disaster. No one is going to know if they're prepared unless they practice. Some people were resourceful enough to store food for the disaster that never happened. The food isn't going to last forever, so why not live off of it instead of eating out and going to the store on a regular basis.
Another option you could do with your food stores is to give it to the local food bank. A lot of people are going hungry because they don't have enough in their kitchens to feed themselves. By giving to others it will help to recipocate goodwill back into the community.
By eating the food you have stored at home will decrease the number of times you run out to the store. A lot of people throw out more food than what they consume, a very avoidable waste. Also, for the food that does get through out, don't toss it into the garbage. Throw compostables out into a compost heap so they can be broken down into fertilizer for plants.
By planning for a disaster that never happened, we can have the new year be a little easier for us. Disasters do happen and they can't be foretold most of the time. We can be prepared. By trying out our plans will we be able to know if it was enough.
