Ford has announced that the last of this generation of Ford Mustangs will get a modest price increase. The 2015 Ford Mustang will get a complete remodel and will be very different than the current generation Mustang. But for one more year, the Mustang will still feature the current retro design cues. The 2015 Ford Mustang will be global car that will be sold in Europe for the very first time. And Ford will need to appeal to a whole new buyer across the pond.
The Shelby GT500 gets a modest bump in price
But for now, we still have the current generation of Mustangs which includes the top of the line Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible. The 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coupe starts at $55,445, including a $795 destination charge, reflecting a $450 price increase over the 2013 model. The 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible starts at $60,445, including shipping, also reflecting a $450 price increase over the 2013 model.
More fun for the track
The Shelby GT500 can be ordered with an optional SVT Track Pack for extra speed and agility for weekends at the track. The optional pack is priced at $2,995 and includes a Torsen differential, 19-inch painted forged aluminum front wheels and 20-inch painted forged aluminum rear wheels, unique rear springs and SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers.
Still less than Chevrolet Camaro
The 2014 Shelby GT500 coupe is priced below one of its chief competitors, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The 2013 Camaro ZL1 starts at $56,550, including a $900 destination charge and a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax. The Shelby GT500 coupe is $1,105 cheaper than the Camaro ZL1. The 2014 ZL1 is set to debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show and GM has not released pricing on the muscle car.
The other competition for the 2014 Shelby GT500 includes Dodge Charger SRT8 and the top of the line Mustang runs $8,455 more than the Dodge. The 2013 Charger SRT8 starts at $46,990, including a $995 destination charge and a $1,000 gas-guzzler tax. Chrysler has not announced pricing on the Dodge Charger.
Ford has also released pricing on the 2014 Ford Mustang V6 coupe ($22,995) and 2014 Ford Mustang V6 convertible ($27,995) which retain the same pricing as the 2013 models. The price also includes shipping. Look for the all-new global 2015 Ford Mustang to make its launch next year. The 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 will be the last of its generation and it would make a great addition to any collectors stable of cars.
