Sawchenko shines as Team Pacific wins at World U-17 Hockey Challenge

According to the Hockey Canada website, Calgary native Zach Sawchenko of the Moose Jaw Warriors made 27 saves as Team Pacific defeated the Czech Republic 4-1 on Wednesday in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

With the victory, Team Pacific improves to 2-1 and moves into first place in Group A.

Victoria Royals centre Tyler Soy of Surrey, British Columbia led Team Pacific offensively with a goal and an assist. His goal was a shorthanded marker with only 23 seconds remaining in the contest.

Team Pacific will next play Team Sweden on Thursday.

In other action, Team West defeated Team Sweden 3-2. Calgary Hitmen center Terrell Draude of Warman, Saskatchewan got on the scoresheet with an assist on Team West's opening goal of the hockey game by Connor Hobbs of the Saskatoon Blazers. The Blazers are part of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. Team West plays Team Quebec on Thursday.
