Savvy shopper: The best places to buy Philosophy

We often engage in comparison shopping when we're in the market for a new car, new computer, or other big-ticket item.  But how often do you comparison shop for makeup and beauty products?

That probably sounds a bit silly--after all, beauty products cost much less than cars and computers.  But it's not such a crazy idea.  Comparison shopping for makeup and beauty products can help you save a few bucks, sure--but it can also help you get value-priced, super-sized products and/or exclusive items you can't purchase anywhere else, get free gifts with your purchase, allow you to try before you buy, and more.  Below, I've outlined the three best places to purchase Philosophy items--and what advantages you'll have by purchasing from these retailers.

Sephora is an absolute godsend when it comes to purchasing makeup and beauty products.  Their stores are full of products to test and helpful salespeople to offer advice on products you might have questions about.  If you want to sniff, try on, or find out the texture of a Philosophy product before you buy it, this is the best place to do so.  Not only can you try on the products in the store, generally Sephora staffers are receptive if you ask for a small sample to take home with you.  This allows you to make an informed decision about whether you want to spend your hard-earned dollars on a product.  Click here to locate the New York Sephora store nearest you.
Bonus: If you're a Beauty Insider (this loyalty club is free to join), you'll earn points on all your purchases and can redeem them towards deluxe samples.

If you're a Philosophy fan, sign up for their emails and check your inbox frequently.  Philosophy's always sending out special offers via--free shipping on orders of $25 and up (as opposed to their usual free shipping on orders $50 and up) and/or free gifts with purchase.  The free gift with purchase offers tend to be pretty amazing.  You usually have to spend $65 or $75 to get these offers, but most times they're well worth it.  In the past, these offers have included a mystery bag full of 4 or 5 products (whose retail value is around $30 to $40), a Philosophy tote bag filled with products, etc.  Even if you don't want to use all the products you're given as a gift with purchase, they make great stocking stuffers or holiday gifts for friends and family.
Bonus: Philosophy has great sales several times a year--they'll alert you to these via email, too.  Sometimes you can get select 3-in-1s for 50% off, or select gift sets for 50% off.  You can't beat those deals (and if you're the type who likes to keep a small stockpile of gifts around for birthdays and hostess gifts, this is a great way to stock up).  Also, if you're a registered user at philosophy.com, you can choose two free samples with every order.

QVC.com sells a lot of Philosophy sets and individual products that even philosophy.com doesn't offer.  Amazing Grace anti-perspirant, hand wash duos, a set of three Kiss Me lip products...just to name a few.  They also sell super-sized products at value prices, such as the set of two 24 oz. 3-in-1s (Butterscotch Candy and Vanilla Ice Cream, $40 total), or a 32. oz Crispy Marshmallow Bars 3-in-1 with a pump top ($30).  They also seem to have some 3-in-1 scents that are exclusive to them (I've never seen English Toffee anywhere besides QVC.com).  If you want to go big...go Philosophy shopping at QVC.com.
Bonus: Did you fall in love with a Philosophy holiday product...and now that it's springtime, you've run out of it and don't know where to buy more?  QVC.com tends to still sell Philosophy's holiday products several months after the holidays have passed, so check for them there!

By the way, all of these places--Sephora, philosophy.com and QVC.com--generally each sell a small amount of items that are exclusive to them, particularly around the holidays.  If you're a Philosophy fan, regularly visit each of those sites to stay on top of the best and most exclusive products and offers.
