They began planting grape vines in 2007 after a fire destroyed the avocado grove on their property.
“We never planned to have a vineyard, we put in the vines because we thought they would look good on the property,” says Peter.
But soon they were producing massive amounts of grapes, with enough vines to create around 6,000 bottles of wine every year they were running out of friends to give their wine to. So eventually they made the decision to open the vineyard to the public and start selling their wine. Denise is the winemaker and she experiments with a variety of different ways to make the different blends; from experimenting with different types of wood for their barrels to the process of adding oxygen to age and add more flavor to the wine.

Peter, who is very charismatic and passionate, has met with a number of notable figures in the wine business, including Leon Santoro who was involved with the Orfila Vineyard and helped establish their worldwide reputation. Peter consulted with Santoro and he received advice about their start up project of Altipiano.

While enjoying the different blends of vine visitors can sit on the scenic property. The Tuscan style house is set above the vineyard and there are outdoor couches and tables where wine tasters can sip and savor. The set of couches that features a backdrop of the vineyard is so stunning that the have been approached to have it used as the backdrop for a television show.
