As fall is upon us and harvest has begun, it is time to celebrate the wines, food and sights of the Central Coast with a weekend getaway to Sunset Savor the Central Coast. This monumental festival put on my Sunset and Visit San Luis Obispo County at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita promises to tantalize all your senses.
Starting Thursday one has the option to have a special adventure tour of Hearst Castle, plant a vine in Cambria or enjoy Abalone on the Cliffs of Cayucos. That evening dine in grandeur at Hearst Castle while tasting many of the 2013 Sunset International Wine Competition and enjoying the cuisine specially prepared by Chef Maegen Loring of the Lido Restaurant at Dolphin Bay.
Friday’s options range from visiting Hearst Castle to discovering Chardonnay at Edna Valley Vineyard or a taste of Morro Bay plus much more awaits you for a day adventure in the area. In the evening enjoy sunset on the sand at Pismo Beach.
The main event takes place at the Santa Margarita Ranch and features a plethora of wineries, restaurants and artisan purveyors. In addition there are numerous wine seminars at Winemaker Central and food demonstrations in the Chef Central by celebrity Chef Michael Voltaggio of L.A. Ink and Ink.sack as well as Nathan Lyon, Marcela Valladolid and Sandra Lee. At the Central Coast Pavilion one can learn about the four counties that make up the Central Coast; San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Ventura as well as discover and sample the wine winners of the Sunset’s International Wine Competition.
If wine is not your thing, you can sip beer from several Central Coast breweries while listening to music from Central Coast musicians in the Vons Music & Tasting Garden.
Find a section at the event devoted to farm to table where there are various demonstrations by local farmers and restaurant chefs.
Saturday night has a very special event. Take pleasure at Sunset in the Vineyard at Vina Robles. During the evening savor the music of two-time Grammy Award Winner Colbie Caillat in the new winery amphitheater. Start the evening off with Paso Robles wines and light bites. During this appetizer reception celebrity chefs Nathan Lyon and Michael Voltaggio will be signing copies of their latest cookbooks. Vina Robles Winery Chef Thomas Drahos will prepare a dinner under the stars, which will be paired to Vina Robles wines or guests, can choose a more casual picnic dinner from Chef Nathan Lyon.
Savor the Central Coast truly familiarizes one with the diversity of the Central Coast whether it be the wines, food or the activities available to partake in each city and region.
