North Arkansas - Parfait was born a puppy like any other, but this puppy did not enter the home of a loving owner. Instead, she fell victim to a cruel individual that denied her the most basic of care.
By the time the now homeless dog was discovered in late December, she was in such horrifying condition that she was not far from death.
Parfait was freezing - she had found huddled inside of another dog's house. Parfait had recently had pups and she was desperately trying to keep them warm...sadly, all but one had already frozen to death at the time she was found.
Parfait was dire condition - she was emaciated and her body was engulfed in a raging infection that started in the raw, painful wound around her neck where an old collar was deeply embedded. The collar was so tight that it was literally suffocating the dog.
But that was then, and this is now. Since Parfait's initial discovery, she has come to Rocky Ridge Refuge for sanctuary and healing.
The abused and neglected dog quickly came to know unconditional love from a human, and despite her horrific past, she showed immediate forgiveness.
Parfait's photos tell her story - they show her happiness and her recovery. They show the profound affect that love and care can provide.
Of special note - Parfait is a Pit bull. Though many will claim that this is a breed designed to fight and kill, one glance at these wonderful photos will tell the real story.
Many of these photos were taken the very first day that Parfait entered her Rocky Ridge sanctuary - when Parfait was nearly a feral dog - starved and in pain. Please take special note of her reaction to the puppies and the small lamb.
Humans could learn so much from dogs.

Thank you for sharing this, Penny. I'm reading this at work and trying very hard not to cry at my desk. It hurts my heart to hear of these atrocities. The thought of a new mother dog on the verge of death, trying to care for her puppies. The thought of all the little puppies who could've had wonderful lives but because of human negligence, they never got the chance. I'm so happy to hear Parfait is doing great! Just want to give credit where it is due to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, that first found this suffering girl and got her and her one live pup the help they needed. The pup is being bottle raised because Parfait had no milk. My friend Nicole and her mom, Jan, graciously spent the whole day to drive her here also. Rescue works best when people work together for the sake of the animals!

I agree with everyone. I'm so glad that Parfait is now in loving hands. Poor puppies shouldn't have died if there was someone who had care for them which didn't seemed to had happened. I do hope she will find a loving home which she well deserves along with her pup.
This is a heartbreaking story of just one innocent dog who wound up in the wrong hands. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is happening all too often. We just adopted an abused dog from Janice at Rocky Ridge Refuge, the little brown dog in one of the photos. If you have room in your heart and home, think about adoption for one of these precious dogs. You won't regret it....God Bless Janice and all her animals at Rocky Ridge.
