Save Your Saturdays for the Vols and Dawgs and Leave the Bride at the Altar

I know most University of Georgia grads hate fall weddings because they are usually on Saturdays and almost always occur during the biggest games of the year.

There is even a national college football Web site entitled "Fall Weddings Stink."

As a local minister, I perform about 100 wedding ceremonies annually, and last summer I had a young bride call to see if I would conduct a wedding for her in the University Chapel.

I checked the date on my calendar and discovered that it was at 12:30 pm, the day of the Tennessee game.

Holy Rocky Top!

She just couldn't understand why that wouldn't work. Her limo was already booked to drive straight through downtown Athens and drop the bridal party off in front of the Arch.

Logistically, there was no way it could be done without a Georgia State Patrol escort or riding in the back of the team bus through town. And she even had a red and black wedding gown.

Oh well, I hope she made it okay, but I suspect she is still standing outside the Varsity with her maid of honor, wondering how she is going to get to the church on time.

Go Dawgs!
