Halloween isn’t the only thing to celebrate this October. The Hollywood Black Film Festival will be celebrating its 11th year of hosting fun events, parties, panels, and showcasing films from October 27, 2011 through October 30, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA.
WHY?: Attending a festival screening is about the same cost as attending a movie at your local theater. However, at film festivals you can see celebrities and attend workshops. In addition, they highlight various short films and features from local to international filmmakers that you would never see at another venue.
WHO?: The festival brings out general movie fans, and working industry professionals. This year’s infotainment conference includes various topical panels with Jeff Gordon, Founder, Writers Boot Camp; Maury Rogow, President, RIP Media; Tracy Edmonds, President & Chief Operating Officer, Our Stories Films; Filmmaker Bill Duke; Denys Cowan, comic book artist/TV producer, The Boondocks; Producer, Matthew Cherry, and many more.
WHAT?: 51 films were selected including features, documentaries, and short films. Selected documentaries include, Phunny Business: A Black Comedy, which documents the rise and fall of All Jokes Aside, the famous Chicago comedy club; Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend, which features home movies and never before seen footage of a young Bob Marley long before he became the music icon. Selected features include, A Mother’s Love, which stars television personality Rolanda Watts, and Changing the Game, from director, Rel Dowdell. Also screening are short films, The Street Performer, which follows Mark Chamberlain who decides to take his love for Shakespeare to the NYC streets; directed/produced by Lamont Stephens, and A Hollywood Zone, which follows the journey of Kevin, as he discovers not everything that glitters is gold, co-directed by Cesar Palacisos.
WHERE?: Throughout Hollywood, including the Andaz West Hollywood Hotel, and Laemmle Sunset Theater #5. Tickets available online.
