Appreciating art is a gift we can all enjoy, often at little or no cost. Art can open your heart, uplift your spirit, teach you something new - about the world or even yourself - and help you heal. Or it can simply give you joy. And the older we get, fellow boomers, the more we are likely to find ourselves enjoying it.
So I suggest you mark your calendar. There's an amazing show coming to Chicago that will give you a look into the minds of some of the most creative designers/architects/artists in the world. SOFA CHICAGO art fair brings an extraordinary collection of Sculpture, Objects, Functional Art + Design (SOFA) to Chicago's Navy Pier Festival Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 7-9. Founded in 1994 and celebrating its 21st year, SOFA CHICAGO 2013 attracted 34,000 attendees from around the globe.
If you're in the market for buying, be sure to attend the Opening Night Preview on November 6 so you can be among the first to preview and purchase.
This fair is dedicated to masterworks of contemporary art and design in all media including glass, ceramics, wood, fiber and metal. You're bound to see many unique juxtapositions of various elements, materials and techniques. If you're a grandparent, consider bringing your middle-age grands along - a great way to expose them to how art and design function in the real world.
SOFA CHICAGO is open Friday and Saturday 11 am – 7 pm; and Sunday 12 pm – 6pm. Tickets are available in advance or at the door, and they allow access to all aspects of SOFA CHICAGO. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $30 for three-day pass. Students and senior (with ID), and group (10 or more) are $15. For advance ticket sales or for more information, visit www.sofaexpo.com or call 800.563.SOFA (7632).
I'll see you there.
