While going to the movies can be very enjoyable, it can also be very expensive, especially for those with kids. There are ways – besides sneaking in food and drink, which of course is against the rules - to save money during each or at least some of your movie outings.
The easiest way to save on your movie going experiences is to see if your local theaters that you like to frequent have rewards programs.
In the Harrisburg, PA area the two better theaters – the ones with stadium seating – are Regal Cinemas and Cinema Centers.
Regal Cinemas has their Regal Crown Club which offers discount tickets for select movies, as well as discounts on candy on Monday, Popcorn on Tuesday, free refills on drinks and popcorn – on the same day purchased – and credits are earned that translate into free tickets, popcorn and soft drinks.
With Cinema Center - under Digiplex Destinations you can sign up to get their weekly newsletter which contains showtimes, movie descriptions, trivia, specials and more. Plus with the subscription you will also get a link in your first e-mail that will allow you to print a coupon for free popcorn. In addition to that, Camp Hill Cinema Center gives away tickets on their Facebook page to people that like certain designated pictures and also to the person that gets picks as the fan of the week. In both cases they then announce the winner on their page and then said person has to contact the theater in order to claim their prize.
Cinema Center of Camp Hill also has a punch card - which you must ask for - where you get a reward every fifth and tenth movie ticket purchase. There is a limit of two punches per visit. After the fifth punch you will get a free popcorn. Then after the tenth visit you will get a free movie ticket!
Then there are two more options to make your movie going experience less expensive. You can go to a theater that does not have stadium seating and that is in turn cheaper – but really who wants to do that? Then the other option is to go to the early showings of movies, which are generally two to three dollars cheaper and less crowded.
